Synopsis: (via B&N)

Katniss is a 16-year-old girl living with her mother and younger sister in the poorest district of Panem, the remains of what used be the United States. Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district agreed to send one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called, "The Hunger Games." The terrain, rules, and level of audience participation may change but one thing is constant: kill or be killed. When Kat's sister is chosen by lottery, Kat steps up to go in her place.

My Thoughts:

Holy cow batman this book was nothing short of spectacular!! I can't believe I waited so long to listen to it. This will be one of the books that hit my all time favorites, it's that good.

Katniss is a fantastic character and Suzanne did a wonderful job making her seem so real. Katniss has all the feelings one would expect from a teenager and so much more. She's so incredibly brave and naive all at once. I also enjoyed Peeta, Haymitch, Cinna, and especially Rue. I adored Rue. Heck I liked all the characters. They were all well created and like able or hate able whichever you prefer.

The world is so very cruel, and several times I found myself feeling afraid and scared for the characters. The Hunger Games is such a brutal game, but at the same time the world was so well created, it seemed almost normal. Almost. Imagine living in a world such as this.

I am so glad you enjoyed the book. I had thought the same thing when I read it. It took a good reading buddy to get me to read this book, and I couldn't believe I would have passed this book up. :) I hope you get to Catching Fire to be ready for the release of Mockingbird in August. :)
